Digitalparking AG, Switzerland's market leader in parking infrastructure, builds barrier gate systems, connecting entry, exit and payment stations, behind more than 15,000 installations nationwide. Replacing a legacy on-premise architecture with mixed operating systems, on-site servers, and slow update cycles, enabling thousands of active devices to consistently run a single, current software version, on Toradex hardware and Torizon.

Parking infrastructure is not a fast-moving market: installations often stay in service for eight, ten years or more, and legacy systems accumulate heterogeneous operating systems, low level BSP communication, and on-premise servers that are slow and risky to update. Digitalparking wanted to replace that model entirely. Every station connecting directly to the cloud instead of relying on an on-site server and built its new generation of hardware on Toradex and Torizon.

Digitalparking integrates Torizon's API directly into its own back end rather than using Torizon Web UI in production, the Torizon UI is reserved for development and testing. That API drives nightly rollouts across thousands of active devices, keeping a single software version in production fleet-wide at all times, without Digitalparking having to build fleet management or maintain an operating system itself.

Choosing a Hardware Partner Built for the Long Term

Digitalparking’s installations remain in the field for eight to ten years, which means the computer modules powering them had to come from a vendor with the long-term operational stability, reliability, and product support needed to sustain that lifecycle. Releasing With Confidence

Small, frequent releases changed how the Digitalparking's team works: every application change ships as its own release, automatically deployed to a staging environment first, with canary rollouts to a handful of installations for anything higher-risk. Major platform upgrades are still real engineering work, but became achievable for a small team.

Because releasing is straightforward, every change ships as its own release, which means the team can deploy with confidence, since each change is small and contained. For higher-risk changes, we use a canary release by rolling out to three or four installations first, monitoring for a day or two, and only then deploying fleet-wide.

Because every device runs the same software version at the same time, Digitalparking's team maintains one consistent system instead of the patchwork most competitors run, a mix of Linux and legacy Windows machines, each on its own version. Fixing an issue once means it's fixed everywhere immediately, with no known security leaks, freeing the team to spend its time improving the product instead of maintaining many different versions of it. This brings huge advantage over competitors on both security and speed of innovation.

When Digitalparking needed to support a new credit card terminal, the update didn't require a special project or a dedicated rollout, it shipped the same way any other change does, as one more release on the next nightly cycle.

Digitalparking doesn't yet fall under the EU Cyber Resilience Act because it operates only in Switzerland, but the fleet already runs on up-to-date operating systems and applications, so if a zero-day surfaces, Digitalparking can act on it immediately.

Together, Toradex and Torizon let Digitalparking run a modern fleet without becoming a platform company itself.
